Hartzfeld hall houses 100 students in four two-story buildings and is among the most popular residence halls that are available to sophomores and above. Hartzfeld is arranged in suite-style housing: four students in two adjoining rooms share bath facilities. A coed complex, Hartzfeld’s suites are alternated according to gender.
Hartzfeld offers students a great place to interact with their community in the central lounge with fireplace and spacious community kitchens! Hartzfeld buildings are small enough - only 25 residents each — to provide each resident with privacy, yet plenty of opportunities to meet new people.
With only 25 occupants per building, the residents in Hartzfeld tend to get to know their neighbors and create a community quickly. To help make this happen, a Resident Advisor (RA) lives in and oversees each Hartzfeld building. Each RA is responsible for planning programs throughout the year, ranging from things like ice cream socials to study abroad info sessions and everything in between. The Hartzfeld RAs are also thoroughly trained in peer counseling and mediation skills to help residents in those areas, should the need arise. Likewise, as undergraduate juniors and seniors, they are great resources for information about the campus, college, and Portland community.
