Global Languages and Cultures

The Global Languages and Cultures Living Learning Community encourages students’ language learning in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish, and enriches their cultural experiences. Residents are typically enrolled in various language classes and learn from one another and from Language Assistants who also promote programming within the hall. Global Languages and Cultures is a hub for students interested in global and domestic travel, cultural exchange, and exploring study and living abroad opportunities.

Global Village is cultivated through ongoing partnerships and collaborations with the Department of World Languages and Literature, International Students and Scholars, and Overseas and Off-Campus Programs. It is housed in Howard Hall. Note that while being enrolled in a language class is encouraged, it is not a requirement of living in the Global Languages and Cultures LLC.

Perks and opportunities that Global Languages and Cultures members can enjoy include (but are not limited to):

  • Programming and interaction from native language speakers (exchange students and Fulbright scholars) representing Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish languages.
  • Connections with World Languages and Literatures faculty and cultural clubs.
  • Access to a large community kitchen with a GLC sponsored spice library showcasing cooking around the world.
  • Language library with books about international studies and language practice materials
  • Mentorship and dedicated programming by peer staff (RAs) who have a dedication to language learning and travel. This includes game nights, cooking together, language movie nights, and more.
