Study Abroad

Hispanic Studies majors and World Languages and Literatures majors with Spanish as the primary language are required to participate in at least a one-semester intensive program overseas. These programs require a GPA of 3.000 in Spanish courses and completion of SPAN 321. 

Hispanic Studies minors also need to complete a semester overseas, however, they can attend any program focused on Spanish (intensive or general culture).

All programs are also open to World Languages and Literatures with another language as their primary language, as well as to non-majors who meet the prerequisites.

Intensive Programs for Hispanic Studies majors and minors, and for World Languages and Literatures majors with Spanish as the primary language:

• Fall and/or spring program in Merida, Mexico.
Prerequisite and/or restriction: Spanish 321, 3.0 GPA.

• Fall and/or spring program in Santiago, Chile, and/or in Valparaiso, Chile.  Prerequisite and/or restriction: Spanish 321, 3.0 GPA.

• Fall and/or spring program in Sevilla, Spain. Prerequisite and/or restriction: Spanish 321, 3.0 GPA.

 

General Culture programs (for non-Majors). Not suitable for Hispanic studies majors or World Languages and Literatures majors with Spanish as the primary language. Suitable for minors.

• Fall and/or spring semester program in Spain: Granada Regional Area Study. Prerequisite and/or restriction: Spanish 202.

• Spring semester program in Havana, Cuba. Prerequisite and/or restriction: Spanish 202 and HIST 348: Modern Cuba.

• Spring semester program in Cuenca, Ecuador. Prerequisite and/or restriction: Spanish 201  *Attention!: only valid for the minor if the program is attended with a 202 level.
