Mission, Vision, and Values
Mission
The Division of Student Life empowers students to learn, lead, and engage the traditions of the liberal arts in the 21st century. As holistic educators, we partner with students through their development in academic & experiential learning, civic leadership & career development, diversity & inclusion, and wellness. We create an enduring community of belonging in which all students can take pride and realize their potential.
Vision
Create a collaborative, transformative and holistic student life experience that both nurtures and challenges our students.
Values
As the Division of Student Life, we strive to serve students and the campus community by living our mission through a values-based approach. These values frame how to engage in the work we do to provide co-curricular education that compliments the academic mission of the college. These four values demonstrate our commitment to nurture and challenge students in their holistic development.
Centering Student Development
Student Development is the crux of our work. Students choose Lewis & Clark due to the rich environment that will foster their growth, personally and professionally. We cultivate opportunities for every student to develop self-awareness and skills that will serve them both at college and beyond. This results in the college serving as a fertile ground for blossoming and resilient humans.
Curiosity
Curiosity is at the heart of the Lewis & Clark experience as we continue to seek greater understanding of ourselves, others, and the world. We are dedicated to merging the knowledge of high-impact practices with the understanding of individuals’ unique circumstances. By being open to new information and perspectives, we discover the path forward, evolving together.
Community and Connections
We strive to create a place where all belong while carefully balancing the need for both personal and communal well-being. We achieve this through offering kindness and empathy towards ourselves and with others. Consistent opportunities for individual and group connections develop and deepen this sense of belonging in our community.
Collaboration
We capitalize on our collective strengths by developing partnerships (both within and outside of the organization) to enhance the student experience. The foundation of our partnerships is diversity of thought, reciprocity, and transparency. This results in trust, rapport, and confidence in our collective endeavors.
