Christopher Bates is Managing Director and Chief CIO of Brampton Gillow Advisors LLC., a Registered Investment Advisor and Certified Fixed Income Practitioner. In 1987 Christopher and his father John Bates founded Bates Private Capital in Portland, Oregon as a securities litigation consulting firm. After a stint in NYC trading and hedging currencies for United Brands Company and Chemical Bank NY, Chris returned to Portland in 1990 and helped to formulate the forensic analysis that Bates Private Capital used for many years in security litigation matters. Since leaving BPC in 2005, Chris has been advising a family office, and from 2016 to 2019 Chris worked at Government Portfolio Advisors, as advisor to governmental entities.
Chris graduated from San Diego State University 1987 with a BA in European Studies after spending a year at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. Although Chris didn’t attend Lewis &Clark, he has plenty of memories of when his father John was teaching there in the 1970’s!
