Supporting our community amid violence in Israel and Gaza

Dear faculty, staff, and students,

I am shocked and distressed by the horrible violence in Israel and Gaza that we are seeing in our news feeds. I am writing to ask you to join me in supporting our students and other community members with close ties to that region. Staff from the Office of International Students and Scholars have already been in contact with students from the region to offer assistance and support. I ask that all of us demonstrate the same sense of compassion and concern for the unique needs of these students during this very difficult time.

I also ask that we extend compassion and understanding to others in our community who may be impacted by this situation. If you feel your own emotional or mental health is being affected, please reach out to your support network or take advantage of the various resources available on campus through the Student Counseling Center, International Students and Scholars, the Center for Spiritual Life, and the College Advising Center. Anytime the Counseling Service is closed, students can access our Crisis Counseling Service at 503-265-7804. Employees may access help through the Employee Assistance Program. The Ombuds Office is also available to all members of the LC community.

Community members looking for another way to express their support and concern can light a candle for peace and wellbeing at the Agnes Flanagan Chapel. Candles are located in the foyer of the chapel, which is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, including weekends.

Our hearts go out to all who are affected by this war. We fervently hope for peace to prevail.

Sincerely,

Robin H. Holmes-Sullivan

President
