ROBERT PIRTLE, a Physics major from Harwich, Massachusetts, was chosen Senior Speaker for the Class of 2014 at the annual competition on March 17.
Speeches from seven candidates were submitted by Wednesday, March 12, 5 p.m., to Michael Ford, Associate Vice President for Campus Life, Commencement Coordinator.
On Monday, March 17, 2014, 7-9 p.m., a selection committee heard all seven speeches in Templeton Campus Center, Council Chamber. All members of the senior class were invited to attend.
Speeches were evaluated based on published criteria by the selection committee of five seniors, two faculty, and two staff who volunteered to serve in this capacity. The selection committee was facilitated by the Commencement Coordinator who is a non-voting member.
All seniors competing for this honor were advised in writing of the results of competition by the Commencement Coordinator once the chosen speaker was notified by the Dean of the College.
All seniors participating also agreed to have their speeches audio recorded, and mp3 files of their speeches are now available below and at the News section of the Commencement web site.
Seniors, families, and guests are encouraged to enjoy all the speeches as they provide a broad cross-section of perspectives on the experiences of the Class of 2014.
The only speech that remains “under-wraps” until Commencement is that of your Senior Speaker, Robert Pirtle.
