Ethnic Studies Symposium Art Show

Bitter Pills: Race, Health, and Medicine

This year’s Ray Warren Symposium Art Show seeks to explore how methods of healing and medicine intersect with racial, cultural, and ethnic identity. Our curatorial contribution to the Art Show, as artists and people of color, seeks to challenge appropriative norms at Lewis & Clark and in Portland. We hope that as you travel throughout the exhibit, you are able to reflect on themes of intergenerational trauma, mental and physical illness, cultural vulnerability, self-care, and other issues conveyed through the pieces shown in this gallery. In our role as curators, we seek to educate, connect, and visually engage all members of our community in constructive conversation about race, health, and medicine. We invite you to engage with these works and themes as they intersect with the rest of the symposium.
