“An Evening with Kim Stafford: Readings from his new book of poetry”

Spend a literary evening with Poet Kim Stafford. Kim will share excerpts from his new book, As the Sky Begins to Change(Red Hen Press, publication date – April 9th, 2024) https://redhen.org/book_author/kim-stafford/

Kim Stafford & his wife Perrin Kerns successfully lead an LC Travel program to the Highlands of Scotland in September 2022. This June they will be leading a group back to Scotland continuing to explore the highlands and onward into the ancient Orkney Islands. There are spots remaining and deposits are due before 2/14. Lecture - “A Way Through Spanish History: What is Spain... and Where Is It Exactly?” Ben Westervelt, Associate Professor of History

But what and even where “Spain”
 ishas changed over time, in some quite remarkable ways. In Roman times Spain was a comfortably peripheral part of a mutli-ethnic empire; in the middle ages, it was the Ukraine between Christian Europe to the north and Muslim Africa to the south. “Africa,” said Victor Hugo, “begins at the Pyrenees.” In the sixteenth century it was the center of a global empire: the king of the Spains had the Pillars of Hercules on his crest, signifying that his dominion extended even beyond the Straits of Gibraltar into the Ocean Sea and beyond. Through it all though, what becomes the “Camino de Santiago” runs like a scarlet thread linking time and place.
