The VPSL Column

Hello Students,

I hope everyone had an opportunity to attend at least one of the fun activities that took place over Homecoming and Family Weekend. I attended my first annual Hall of Fame dinner on Friday, and had an action-packed Saturday with Lewis & Clark community events including the Coffee with the Deans and President, followed by the State of the College presidential address for families, numerous athletics events, and a homecoming tailgate. On Sunday I enjoyed an engaging meeting with the Parents’ Council. I have now been at Lewis & Clark for two-and-a-half months: I am thrilled to be part of the community here and to have had many vibrant opportunities—such as those over Homecoming and Family Weekend—to connect with you. I look forward to more opportunities to build community together in the coming days and weeks.

Speaking of opportunities to connect, I hope you will join me in attending the inauguration of Lewis & Clark’s 26th President, Dr. Robin Holmes-Sullivan, on Friday, October 21, as well as the student celebration that is being held in President Holmes-Sullivan’s honor at Punch Bowl Social on October 22. Please RSVP here for the ceremony and here for the party.

I want to turn our attention to VOTING! Voting is one of the most important ways we have to participate in civic life and work for change. As a college student, you have the option of voting in Oregon or your home state. However, you cannot be registered in both locations. If you do plan to register to vote in your home state, please remember to sign-up for an absentee ballot (regulations vary by state). Throughout my own college education, I was away from home and out of state, but definitely took advantage of absentee ballot voting. If you are not already registered to vote, I encourage you to visit the Oregon Secretary of State’s website and register! More information about voting, including links to registration in other states, can be found here on this specific LC link. I have also found Vote411 particularly helpful too in learning more about voting (click any state for more information).

I look forward to seeing you at the Inauguration festivities this Friday and Saturday! Congratulations again to President Robin Holmes-Sullivan!

Best regards,

Evette Castillo Clark, Ed.D.

Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students
