Academic Advising at L&C

The purpose of advising is to provide students with the information, guidance, and support they need to capitalize on L&C opportunities and services, succeed in their coursework, graduate in a timely manner, and begin purposeful lives after graduation. Although students are ultimately responsible for their education and the completion of their degree, L&C provides multiple types of academic advising resources to help facilitate a successful and engaging college experience for each student.

The College Advising Center

The L&C College Advising Center team considers of seven members who are dedicated to helping students and faculty achieve their goals. Working in tandem with professors and faculty advisors, the College Advising Center assists students in developing long-term academic plans and effective skills and strategies to foster success inside and outside the classroom.

Examples of College Advising Center Services
  • Discussion of students’ interests and help with long-term planning
  • Assistance with understanding academic policies and procedures
  • Facilitation of opportunities to learn new study skills and time management strategies
  • Support for students who are experience challenges to their academic success
  • Guidance on understanding the completing appeal processes
  • Facilitation of opportunities for a strong student-advisor connection.



September 16th, 2015

  • 3:30pm - 4:30pm: Making the Most (of) Money

    Are you overwhelmed with money matters? Need help deciphering financial aid or work-study? Not sure how to make (and stick to) a budget? This workshop will help students understand their financial aid and work-study options, explore ways of saving money on campus, and relay some unique tips to get student discounts off campus. Students will leave with a better idea of how to get the most of their college experience without chaining themselves to mountains of debt. Broke is no joke!

  • 3:30pm - 4:30pm: Passport to Study Abroad Essentials

    It’s a great big world out there and you have the power and opportunity to explore it! This workshop will help you prepare for the trip of a lifetime. We’ll explore the academic and financial planning necessary to make a memorable, affordable, and unforgettable trip abroad and still graduate on time!

October 1st, 2015

  • 3:30pm - 4:30pm: Managing Your Academic Life

    You could wait to take this workshop – but that would be procrastination! Come learn how to tackle time management, how to study smarter (not harder), and face other learning obstacles. We can help you identify realistic and practical strategies for overcoming these roadblocks. Once you have your schedule under control, using active study strategies will help you retain information and make the most of your time.
