Call for Work

We cordially invite you to submit proposals for presentations at Lewis & Clark’s 10th annual Middle Eastern Studies Symposium, scheduled to take place on February 27-29, 2024. This symposium, driven by the Middle Eastern North Africa Studies program at Lewis & Clark, sets out to explore linguistic diversity and identity, multicultural communications, and language politics. Topics may include poetry, calligraphy, language policy, literature, and multilingualism in the region.

We welcome proposals for various presentation formats, including individual research papers (15-20 minute presentations), hands-on workshops, roundtable discussions, readings, and exhibitions. We encourage submissions aligned with the overarching theme of language and politics and also embrace a broad spectrum of topics. Geographically, we encompass North Africa, the Middle East, Asia Minor, and Southwest Asia. We invite papers that deal with both contemporary and historical topics.

Potential topics may encompass, but are not limited to:

  1. MENA Languages and Politics
  2. Poetry, Literature, and Calligraphy
  3. Ethnicity and Religion
  4. Arts and Media
  5. Migration, Diaspora, and Citizenship
  6. Inequality and Human Rights
  7. Peace and Conflict

Proposals use this form to submit your proposal by February 10, 2024.

We look forward to your valuable contributions to this enriching symposium experience.
