Reflecting on MLK’s Legacy | Honoring Black Community through Unity: Past to Present

On Jan. 15th, the Center for Social Change and Community Involvement hosted a MLK Volunteer Day. 80 students, faculty, staff, and alumni showed up to make sack lunches and care kits for The Blanchet House. It was a beautiful display of our community spirit at L&C.
MLK Day is the only federal holiday honoring a Black leader and the only national day of service. And despite what you might think, getting a national holiday in his honor was no easy feat.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is part of a long tradition of Black leaders who continue to fight for justice, practice mutual aid, and see every individual’s liberation as inextricably linked.
As you enter your spring semester, I hope you’ll consider volunteering and attending community building/educational events to challenge yourself to get into some “Good Trouble” as the late Rep. John Lewis would say.
