Q&A with Anna Miromanova, Assistant Professor of Economics

Assistant Professor of Economics Anna Miromanova’s research focuses on issues in international trade with emphasis on the effects of non-tariff trade barriers on aggregate and micro-level trade.

When and how did you develop an interest in your field?

It actually wasn’t until I started my MA degree in economics as a Fulbrighter at Western Michigan University that I got really interested in economics. I thought economics was something completely different, like money, finances and banks, which wasn’t what I enjoyed at all. But after my first class in microeconomics, it turned out much more interesting, because economics is a study of behavior. After I took development economics, I knew I was in love with econ and wanted to give it my all.

What excites you most about joining the L&C community?

I am very excited to join the LC community because it feels so warm, inviting, and welcoming. All my interactions with students, other faculty and staff are incredible, and I am excited to contribute. Of course, I also love Oregon, Portland, and the L&C campus is simply stunning.

What kind of hobbies or special activities do you enjoy outside of work?

One of my most favorite things to do in the whole world is walking! I love exploring Portland neighborhoods on foot, looking at amazing gardens and beautiful homes. I also enjoy hiking, Irish dance, podcasts, reality TV, movies, and snuggling with my two cats, Purrcival and Pepita.
