Monuments & Memorials in Portland: Prototypes Exhibition up now until Oct. 9

This past year, Associate Professor and Head of Sculpture Jess Perlitz has been the co-director of Portland’s Monuments & Memorials Project (PMMP), alongside Converge 45’s Director Mack McFarland.

The project began with a talk about the York Sculpture on LC’s campus with Prof. Reiko Hillyer and the artist Alison Saar.

The year-long venture of PMMP is culminating with the group exhibition, Prototypes, which is up now through October 9, 2021: Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. and by appointment, at 1010 NW Flanders Street.

See the preview piece in Portland Monthly, a full review of the exhibition in the Willamette Week, and shout outs in the Oregonian’s fall art guide and Willamette Week’s Fall Arts Guide, with more press coverage forthcoming.

“The project is facilitating some really important and urgent conversations,” Perlitz said. “Keep an eye out for some upcoming programming in conjunction with the exhibition, including an info session with the Toppled Monuments Archive and a panel talk on the possibilities and limitations of public art selection committees.”
