Cover of College & Research Libraries News
This month’s cover College & Research Libraries News features the “Mouth of the Willamette River, Oregon” from The West Shore: An Illustrated Western Magazine. From 1887, the image features a view from the hills northwest of present-day Portland looking downriver and includes the pre-eruption Mount St. Helens and, in the distance, Mt. Adams.
The West Shore was a literary magazine that was “devoted to the development of the Great West” and published in Portland in the late 1800s. It was famous for its wood engravings and lithography. The image is part of the Lewis & Clark College Digital Collections. More information is available at http://digitalcollections.lclark.edu/.
