Learn how Ana moved from Sao Paulo to the US and made (and recently sold) a business based on a mission to provide fresh, healthy and delicious salads for busy people.
Ana Chaud started her career as a financial and business manager in San Francisco Bay Area where she built a thriving consulting practice that serviced a client base of over 80 companies, for over 10 years.
As a Management Consultant, Ana blended leadership, passion, innovation and teamwork that specialized in developing business processes, streamlining operations and managing all aspects of finance and accounting.
In 2008, Ana moved to Portland and while still servicing clients as a consultant, she worked as a Controller at Archaeological Investigations Northwest. Later, she joined 52 Limited as Director of Operations, during which time, Ana realized that Portland was missing a strong presence in the healthy fast casual segment.
A devout follower of the Paleo diet, and overall nutrition enthusiast, Ana found herself struggling during her limited lunch hours to find a spot that offered quick, fresh, made-to-order salads, to eat on the go. Though the idea was not foreign in other parts of the country, it was still nonexistent in our city. In January 2014, Ana co-founded Garden Bar, the first fast casual, salad concept restaurant in the NW. Garden Bar was quickly recognized as the “place to go” for fast, healthy casual meals. In less than five years, the chain grew to 9 stores across the Portland metro. Ana handled all aspects of company, including finance and operations.
In five years, Garden Bar grew approximately 600% in revenue and expanded its employee base from 9 to 120 employees. During that time, the company received extensive media attention, including several prominent business and trade publications, both locally and nationally. Garden Bar was recognized as 22nd Fastest Growing Company in Oregon in 2017, the 4th largest minority owned business in Oregon in 2018, and it just received the Hot Concepts Award, from the Nation’s Restaurant News. Just recently, Garden Bar was acquired by Evergreens, a fast-casual salad chain based in Seattle WA. The acquisition provided Ana with a full circle experience of the life cycle of her company - from concept to exit. During that time, Ana executed the funding strategy which featured a blend of equity, convertible notes and traditional financing. She managed all investors relations and communication.
This year, Ana Chaud is a finalist for the OEN Tom Hulce Entrepreneurship Award, which recognizes the most influential entrepreneurs in Oregon. Ana is also committed to giving back to the community, as she serves and is involved in several nonprofits including Entrepreneurs Organization, Portland Business Alliance, Schoolyard Farms, Rose Haven, Active Children, The Bloom Project, as well as collaborating and supporting organizations that assist Women in Leadership and Entrepreneurism.
