Lewis & Clark ranked No. 37 in the Princeton Review’s list of the nation’s most environmentally responsible colleges and universities.

Moss Appreciation Week is just one ... Moss Appreciation Week is just one of the ways our students are able to appreciate the natural world around them.

The Princeton Review has ranked Lewis & Clark No. 37 on its list of Top 50 Green Colleges in the United States. According to Princeton Review’s website, the schools that made the list “share superb sustainability practices, a strong foundation in sustainability education, and a healthy quality of life for students on campus.”

The Princeton Review chose the schools for the guide and its ranking list based on data from the company’s surveys of administrators at 713 colleges during the 2021–22 academic year and surveys of students attending the colleges. More than 25 data points were analyzed in the selection of schools for the guide and ranking list.

“Since we debuted this project 13 years ago, we have seen an increasing interest among college applicants in attending colleges that are committed to the environment and to green practices,” said Rob Franek, editor in chief of the Princeton Review. He noted that of the 10,400 college applicants participating in the Princeton Review’s 2022 College Hopes and Worries Survey, an overwhelming majority—77 percent—said information about a college’s commitment to the environment would affect their decision to apply to or attend the school. Of that cohort, 37 percent said such information would contribute “strongly” or “very much” to their decision about a school.

“All three of our schools are strongly committed to sustainability, and I’m pleased that Princeton Review has recognized our efforts,” said President Robin Holmes-Sullivan. “We are educating the next generation of leaders to face the complexities of green issues head-on, and, in the process, to ensure the health of the planet and each other.”
