WellNotes: SH101 November

WellNess Notes for November 2015

Greetings All,

Welcome to the November issue of WellNotes, where we talk about great ways to be healthy.  As always, check out this month’s edition of StudentHealth101 (follow this link:http://readsh101.com/lclark.html) to learn more about fighting the flu, smoking, being smart with your finances, and more!

With the days getting shorter and the weather getting rainier, it’s more important than ever to spend time outside and exercise.  Ride a bike through Tryon, walk or jog to through the cemetery, or just walking to Watzek to do your homework instead of staying in your room can help you get out and get active.  Even just five minutes of exercise reduces stress, releases tension, and increases your ability to concentrate.

On top of being the middle of holiday season November is also national Nutrition Month.  Everyone knows that good nutrition is key to holistic health but it can be hard to eat healthy 100% of the time (especially when there’s a bag of Halloween candy on your desk).  By deciding to stick to one healthy eating habit for the month you can celebrate national Nutrition Month and ease into healthier eating.  Some examples include: giving up soda for the month, resolving to eat a serving of veggies at every meal, eating fruit for dessert instead of a cookie, the list is endless.

Speaking of awesome things about November: Fall Ball is right around the corner!  This is the perfect opportunity to get together with your friends, get all gussied up, and show off your wicked dance moves.  Cut lose and get down with your bad self, just remember to be safe and make smart decisions so that you, and everyone else, can enjoy their Fall Ball.

Have a happy, healthy November and hang in there, Thanksgiving Break is on its way!
