Date: 3:00pm PDT March 11 Location: Agnes Flanagan Chapel

Agnes Flanagan Chapel

Alumna, Lisa Neher returns to Lewis & Clark on Sunday, March 11, 2018 for a 3 p.m. recital in Agnes Flanagan Chapel! Please join us for “Her Songs: A Recital Celebrating Music Written by Women” featuring Dr. Lisa Neher, Mezzo-Soprano & Composer.

Dr. Lisa Neher, Mezzo-Soprano and Composer Lisa Neher (DMA) is in high demand as a recitalist, choral soloist, and interpreter of new music. Lisa’s musical-theatrical fluency and passion for contemporary music have led to engagements such as the first staged version of Sun Songs: Three Micro-Operas by Augusta Read Thomas and the leading role in the world premiere of Rita Ueda’s chamber opera One Thousand White Paper Cranes for Japan with Chamber Sounds of Singapore. Recent performances include Alto Soloist in Bach’s Magnificat and Ascension Oratorio, a recital tour of the music of North and South America with Duo Andura, and a performance of Dr. Christine Getz’s new edition of works by Baroque composer Giovanni Paolo Cima. Lisa is the creator of the One Voice Project, a one-woman performance combining contemporary poetry and new musical works for unaccompanied voice chosen through a call for scores initiative.

Lisa’s compositions are shaped by her keen sense of dramatic timing and feature aching, lyrical phrases, energetic rhythmic motives, and intensely dissonant pitch clusters. 2017 saw premieres of Lisa’s marimba duo Thaw, performed by Mayumi Hama and Chris Froh at the Sacramento State Festival of New American Music, Twister for Durward Ensemble, and Icy Celestial Bodies for solo marimba, performed by Matt Andreini. Lisa holds a BA in music and theatre from Lewis & Clark College, a MM in composition from the University of Kansas and a DMA in voice from the University of Iowa. She is a fellow of the Gabriela Frank Creative Academy of Music and the Cortona Sessions for New Music. In addition to her active freelance career, she is on faculty at Coe College and Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa, teaching voice and composition.
