The Divest Coal Campaign is aimed at working with Lewis & Clark to divest endowment funds from the most environmentally & socially irresponsible fossil fuel companies in the industry – and reinvesting those funds into more local, environmentally and socially conscious alternatives. This campaign is one of the largest student movements to sweep the nation in 20 years - and many schools across the United States, as well as the city of Seattle, have already committed to finding economically feasible alternatives to fossil fuel investments. Here at LC we’ve had 1300 student petitions signed in support of the campaign, met with key administrators, and had a meeting with President Berry Glassner.
Moving forward, we want to mold our campaign into a more integrated, aware, and student-led campaign – tailored to the needs of our campus. Divest Coal is focused on how students can work with the Lewis & Clark administration, The Sustainability Council, The Board of Trustees, student groups, and integrate the campaign with the newly released Strategic Plan.
