Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act is intended to ensure students the right to inspect, review, and control access to student educational records maintained by an educational institution. On the navigation bar to the right, or in the text below, you will find links to FERPA related policy, tutorials and release forms.

LEWIS & CLARK COLLEGE EDUCATION RECORDS POLICY

The Lewis & Clark College Education Records Policy includes definitions and an explanation of each of the following topics: “directory information”, access to records, authorized release of records, and procedures.

FERPA TUTIORIAL

The FERPA tutorial must be completed by all staff and faculty at the institution, and students who have employment, internships or responsibilities that bring them into contact with student records.  Examples may include students who work in academic offices, athletics, or as teaching assistants.

Our Family Access to Student Information page provides supplemental information for family members.

RELEASE FORMS

The college has one primary release form maintained through the Registrar’s office that allows a student to designate a third party to be given information about the student’s educational records.1 While this release covers the vast majority of educational records, some offices require additional or specialized release forms to be signed by the student. An explanation and links to forms or offices are listed on the Release Forms page.

Students have the right to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by Lewis & Clark College to comply with the requirements of FERPA.  The name and address of the office that administers FERPA is:
