Stand-up Paddleboard Afternoon

Don’t worry- THIS WILL ONLY HAPPEN IF THE WEATHER FORECAST IS GOOD.  Get off campus and come stand-up paddleboard the Willamette River! This river is just down the hill, where you can see great blue heron and even an occasional seal!

We’ll be getting to the Willamette River in our College Outdoors vehicles, the drive is about 20 minutes. The guidelines for COVID mitigation and vehicle use can be found below.

This trip is weather dependent, so if it is cold and rainy, we’ll reschedule this trip.

Stove Clinic: Pancake Breakfast

Hungry for pancakes, and want to learn some outdoor skills in the bargain? Sign up for this clinic where you’ll learn to use one of a variety of camping or backpacking stoves to make your own delicious stack of pancakes. (And of course, then you get to eat it right there, or take it  with you.)

Learn from backcountry culinary experts that will show you all the tricks and tips to making great flapjacks in the wilderness.

NOTE: for this clinic, we don’t have gluten-free pancake mix, but email “outdoors@lclark.edu” to let us know if you are interested in a future clinic that is for gluten-free pancakes.

Spring Explosion of Ethnobotany and Edible Plants

The forests around campus are exploding with new leaves, wildflowers, and (especially) trilliums!  The natural areas look their best in the spring, and you should experience it!  Grab your “pod” mates, or come on your own. Learn about the Native American and early European settlers’ uses of these plants, and which ones are good to eat, right here on the L&C campus and in the surrounding natural areas!

This hands-on medical course that is the outdoor industry standard! It includes engaging outdoor classroom sessions and outdoor scenarios taught by wilderness medical professionals.
