LGBTQ+ History & Pride Month
During LGBTQ+ History Month (Oct. 1st - Oct 31st), we honor and celebrate the achievements that the LGBTQ+ community has influenced across the world. LGBTQ+ history month was founded by Missouri high school teacher Rodney Wilson, who has dedicated the month of October to learn about the history of the LGBTQ+ movement and historical figures.
LGBTQ+ Pride Month (June 1st - June 30th) was created to honor the 1969 Stonewall Riots in Manhattan, New York City. Pride Month focuses on the LGBTQ+ movement towards equality and the visibility of LGBTQ+ people. Due to Pride Month celebrated in June, L&C celebrates Pride Month during April to accommodate for the academic school year.
