What Career Center program did you participate in?
Hu/Hsieh Internship Grant
What organization did you work with?
In San Jose California, USA
What did you do at your internship?
I decided to take initiative and create some goals that would build my portfolio and resume. I went to many networking events as well as panels that discussed different marketing strategies for start-ups, and how the advent of AI will affect the way media is produced. I also spent time learning about media startups and connecting with founders who have a wealth of knowledge about the industry. During this time I also learned how to use a new editing software as well as an asset management system— both being important skills for the media industry.
How did Lewis & Clark’s Career Center support you in finding, securing, and/or funding your internship?
Without the grant, this summer of networking and self-development would not have been possible. Nina Olken from the Career Center was very comforting when my internship did not work out and directed me towards taking charge. The support really propelled me to have confidence in myself and persevere despite not having support from an external organization.
What is your biggest takeaway from your internship?
I learned how to navigate unfamiliar environments— prior to this summer, I had never attended a single networking event. Now I can safely say that I am very comfortable meeting new people and fostering a connection with them. I still talk to many of the professionals I met and they are very eager to support in all my aspirations.
How is this internship connected to your career goals and/or future aspirations?
Spending time going to different conferences and panels provided me with a ton of knowledge about the various niche industries in the world. It solidified my desire to only work in the start-up ecosystem, primarily because I realized how much I value innovation.
