Interns for Racial Justice

The Lewis & Clark Center for Social Change and Community Involvement (The Center) has developed partnerships with many Racial Justice Movement Partners (RJMP) to provide racial justice internships during summer 2022 to students wanting to learn more about this important work. This program allows students, who are committed to racial justice, to participate in a paid internship with a local Portland organization. Participating organizations are involved in the entire vetting, application and selection process.

Internship funding will vary based on the scope of work, generally student stipends will be allocated in the range of $2,000-4,000 for the summer. Recipients will receive the award in the form of a stipend. A stipend is a fixed amount and is not an hourly wage. (Please keep in mind awards may take up to 3 weeks to process and may not be mailed out until late May.)

Read the internship descriptions and choose which internships you’re interested in applying to. You can apply to more than one, but will need to submit a unique application for each internship. Applications links can be found at the top of the page.

Submit your application(s).

Students have until March 18 to submit their applications. You will hear if you have been selected to interview by approximately March 21. Organizations will interview candidates from March 21-April 8. We will notify you of your status by approximately April 13. If you applied to multiple internships you may receive multiple offers. If you receive multiple offers you will have until April 25 to make your final decision. Length of internship and weekly time commitment is dependent on the internship.
