ASB Lyft Program
ASB Pilot Program:
The ASB Senate approved $50,000 to begin a Lyft subsidy like other collegiate institutions offer. Lyft Rideshare programs for universities vary in type, some use it for commuting, others use Lyft as a guaranteed late night ride home. ASB wanted to ask what L&C students need from Lyft. After surveying the student body, ASB created a Lyft rideshare program with the least amount of restrictions so undergraduates can utilize the subsidy in what best suits their individual needs.
We hope that students utilize Lyft subsidies for a variety of reasons: getting a safe ride home in the evening, commuting to and from campus, and exploring the greater Portland metropolitan area.
This pilot program is for two key reasons: one, to determine how students would utilize Lyft as a “live” survey; and two, to encourage administration and the institution to pick up Lyft subsidies for students.

Please Note: This is a pilot program for the Lewis & Clark undergraduate student community offered by ASB and has a limited amount of funding. As a result, the program is subject to change and/or may end early.
Program Details:
All currently enrolled Lewis & Clark undergraduate students will receive an invitation at their official Lewis & Clark email account from “Lyft Business” when the program launches, inviting them to activate the ASB Lyft Pilot Program. Once you receive the email titled “ASB sent you a Lyft Pass,” please open this email and follow the steps inside to sign up for the program and start receiving your ride discounts.
Each undergraduate student who connects their Lyft account to their lclark.edu email account per the instructions in the email from Lyft shall receive:
- 2 passes for $10 ride discounts per month available to use through May 8, 2023
- If your ride cost exceeds $10 (the per ride discount amount), you will need to pay the remaining cost out of pocket
- The ride discounts do not “roll over” or accumulate and must be used in the month they are offered
- The ride discounts are available for use 24/7 through May 8, 2023
- The ride discounts are valid on standard Lyft or XL Rides
Once activated, your discounted rides should automatically be applied to your account within the Lyft app (in the “Promos” section) to rides which meet the program criteria.
Tips For Riding Smart:
Participating in ridesharing has inherent risks. Lewis & Clark College and ASB do not vet or screen Lyft drivers participating in the program or other ride sharing programs that our community uses. The ASB Lyft Pilot Program is not an official endorsement of Lyft’s services.
You can improve your ride sharing experience across all platforms by following simple safety tips:
- Know where the emergency buttons are within your app should you ever need them.
- Wait inside (when possible) while placing a ride request and waiting for the ride to arrive.
- Verify your ride by making sure the license plate number, driver information, and car make and model match what you see in the app. Don’t get in the vehicle if the information doesn’t match.
- Check your driver’s rating once assigned a car. Cancel the ride if you are uncomfortable with it.
- Don’t share personal information such as your cell phone or last name with the driver; use the app to message or communicate with them.
- Ask the driver to say who they are picking up.
- Consider sharing your location and route with a friend or loved one from within the ride sharing app so they can follow your ride in real time.
- Follow the vehicle on GPS via the app.
- Always wear a seatbelt.
- Dial 911 in case of an emergency.
- Learn more about how to ride smart with Lyft.
Additional Program Information:
- If you request a ride that doesn’t meet the ASB Pilot program criteria, you will not see the discount shown on your ride confirmation screen and you will be required to pay out of pocket.
- So, students cannot apply these passes toward Lyft bikes and Lyft rentals
- Prices may be impacted by distance, traffic, time of day, special events and prime time surcharges.
- If you see an expiration date of the last day of the current month listed in your Lyft app, don’t worry – the program discount is automatically re-applied on the first day of each month. The last day of the current month will always show as an expiration date but won’t affect your ability to receive discounted rides in future months, as long as the ASB Lyft Pilot Program is in place.
Please Note: You are solely responsible for compliance with Lyft Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. Failure to comply with their guidelines and terms of service may result in deactivation from the Lyft Platform. If one or more are violated, you will be given notice of the potential or actual deactivation, and an opportunity to attempt to resolve the issue prior to Lyft permanently deactivating your account. All disputes and claims shall be communicated and resolved directly between you and Lyft.
