Congratulations on your acceptance to the 2024 Fir Acres Writing Workshop!

The summer Workshop runs from June 23–July 6, 2024 on the Lewis & Clark campus. We look forward to meeting you!

We ask you and your parent or legal guardian to review the checklist and fill out all forms (including uploading signed forms) as completely as you can so that we may plan for your arrival. Please bookmark this page!!! This page is for accepted students only; you cannot access this page from the Fir Acres homepage.

Total tuition for the two weeks is $3,700. The non-refundable deposit is $500. After deposit, the remaining tuition is $3,200.

HERE’S A LIST OF WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:

  • Please REGISTER by the date stated on your acceptance letter to secure your spot. This is the fastest and easiest way to let us know you will be joining us. Please do this first!
  • DEPOSIT must be received by the date stated on your acceptance or within 30 days of acceptance (for Jan 1 applicants) and all tuition (the balance) must be received by May 1, 2024. If we do not receive a deposit within the stated timeline you will be moved to the waiting list.
  • The PARTICIPANT ONLINE ENROLLMENT form needs to be filled out by participant and a legal guardian or parent and completed by May 1, 2024. Please submit this early! Included on the enrollment form is health and nutrition information, student preferences (genre, elective, t-shirt size), and an upload button to attach your signed Authorization of Program Participation” and “Community Code of Conduct” form. You only need to attach the first (signature) page, but please read in full the Authorization as well as Code of Conduct.
  • EMAILED PHOTOS (front and back) of participant’s health insurance card. Yes, we collect this information on the enrollment form and we still need photos! Please put participant’s name in the subject line of your email to us. You can click the link above to email us or click here: firacres@lclark.edu 
  • TRAVEL AND TRANSPORTATION PLAN. We need to know if you need a shuttle ride from the PDX airport and back to PDX. We also need to know if you’ll be dropped off by a parent or relative. Please fill out this info as soon as you know your plans!
  • ADDITIONAL FORMS (below, if applicable) for participants with diabetes, anaphylaxis, asthma, or who require additional health and medical documentation, or participants heading off-campus with family or relatives during the two weeks.

Please note: Parents and participants are expected to disclose any known behavioral, mental health, or medical issues as part of the Health History and Mental, Social, and Emotional Health History sections on the enrollment form. If any student participant has chronic or serious health issues, including mental health issues, parents will agree to provide further written documentation for the ongoing care of such conditions. Final determination of each student’s ability to participate in the Workshop in full or with accommodations will be made by Workshop staff after review of the information provided during online enrollment. All prescription medications will be given to the Fir Acres nurse on registration day (Oregon law) and dispensed by the Resident Directors throughout the two weeks. Fir Acres does not have a full-time nurse in residence, but rather “on call,” and overseeing medical procedures, such as injections, will be reviewed and Fir Acres staff will determine if we can accommodate such procedures.
