Roundtable discussion: The Flows Between Education and Incarceration
The 17th Annual Ray Warren Symposium on Race and Ethnic Studies revolves around the concept of movement. A focus on the political, bodily, and emotional dimensions of movement invites us to consider how BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) navigate the world.
Our focus on movement exposes the institutions that have dictated and tracked the physical, economic, and social mobility of BIPOC, while also illuminating resistance to oppressive systems through embodied expression and collective action. This symposium asks us to consider migration and displacement, tourism and travel, dance, and protest. How, where, when, and why do we move—or remain in place?
Drawing from the wisdom and experiences of communities of color, together we examine the complexities and power of movement, honor those who have moved before us, and consider how we may move forward.
