Healing Justice Practice Space

Healing Justice Practice Space

As part of the symposium this year, we are offering a Healing Justice Practice Space (HJPS). An HJPS is a place for community healing in relation to social justice work, and it centers Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC), people with disabilities, and queer and trans folks. Healing Justice is a movement that recognizes the role of healing as essential to organizing, and works to address intergenerational and collective trauma (especially from oppression), ableism, and accessibility to healing and health care. Our HJPS is an opportunity for BIPOC symposium participants to care for themselves and each other, given that the topics discussed can be heavy and triggering for BIPOC. We are offering a variety of healing modalities, centering BIPOC practitioners in an effort to uplift the survival tactics and resilience of these communities and to resist the co-optation and appropriation of our healing modalities.

The HJPS will be open in various locations in Templeton during the day on Thursday and Friday (exact times still to be determined). The locations and schedule are as follows:

  • Acupuncture and massage, Thayer
  • Quiet reflection and light snacks, Feminist Student Union
  • Aromatherapy, quiet reflection, and light snacks, Queer Student Union/Disabled Student Union
  • Emotional support and counseling, Multicultural Resource Center
  • Conversation space and art therapy, Office of Inclusion and Multicultural Engagement

These services are free and geared towards BIPOC participants in the symposium. Please sign up at the table outside Thayer for acupuncture, massage, and emotional support. All other spaces are drop-in.
