Allan Vermeulen on Technology
Allan discusses plateaus and revolutions in technology
On the topic of technology, Allan discussed the trends in informational systems – past, present, and future - Amazon.com’s cloud computing, the role that Amazon.com’s web servers as a social enterprise, and the way that engineers are working with the changes and revolutions in computer technology.
Allan on trends in informational technology in the next few years:
“Moore’s law says that computers are getting faster and people think this is making computer scientist’s lives easier. But faster computers make people’s expectations go up even faster than Moore’s law”
On the use of cloud computing at Amazon.com:
“It kind of has turned out the way we thought it would… The scale is what’s been surprising. Astonishing.”
On the fact that technology progress usually is not gradual, but rather comes in sharp improvements:
“What we are looking for is the next revolution. And we haven’t cracked that yet. When we do it’s going to lead to bigger and better things.”
