Minoring

An ESS minor will provide structure and recognition to students wishing to integrate geoscience offerings with other relevant offerings in natural and mathematical sciences.

Complete 23 credits (five–six courses) from the list below.

  • At least 12 credits (three courses) must be unique to the minor.
  • At least 12 credits (three courses) must be taken at L&C.
  • Take two Earth system science courses (one must be 200-level or above)
    • ESS 150: Environmental Geology (5 cr)
    • ESS 170: Climate Science (5 cr)
    • ESS 270: Oceanography (5 cr)
    • ESS 280: Hydrology (5 cr)
    • ESS 290: Topics in Earth System Science (4 cr)
    • ESS 340: Spatial Problems in Earth Systems Science (5 cr)
  • Take 2 foundational natural science (must be from different departments)
    • BIO 201: Biological Core Concepts: Systems (4 cr)
    • CHEM 100: Environmental Chemistry (5 cr)
    • CHEM 110: General Chemistry I (5 cr)
    • PHYS 105: Astronomy (4 cr)
    • PHYS 141/151: Introductory General Physics I (mechanics) (5 cr)
  • Take 1–2 electives to complete the 23 credit requirement, which could include any additional ESS courses or:
