Alumni College sessions are a great opportunity to attend lectures of notable faculty, emeriti faculty, and alumni. These lecture sessions are barrels of fun!

Friday, June 21

Tell Your Story - Moth Radio Hour Style
Location To Be Determined 1:30 - 2:30 p.m.
Brought to you by the class of 1989, this “open mic” Storytelling Gathering, will pull from the official Moth Storytelling game card collection. Class shero Serena Cruz ’89 and class hero Jackson Shea ’89 will moderate and we’ll provide Moth Radio Hour Game cards. Compelling and interesting stories along with much laughter, guaranteed!

Contentious Global Issues Discussion-The Global Impact of Artificial Intelligence, Professor Bob Mandel
Council Chamber, Fowler Student Center 3 - 4 p.m.
Facilitated by Professor Bob Mandel, this session will highlight the value of being exposed to sharply contrasting perspectives on a topic deserving of multiple viewpoints and their distinctive supportive argumentations. Join Bob, and alumni Lisa (Burnett) Borelli ’89, Steve Van Mouwerik ’79, Micael Lonergan ’19, Eric Nijensohn 98, and Matt Wuerker ’79 for a probing discussion that will empower the alumni to engage in diverse legitimate forms of critical thinking about the subject matter’s complex, multifaceted, and sometimes contradictory implications.

Saturday, June 22

Morning Mindfulness with Awakened Awareness 
Location To Be Determined 9 - 10 a.m.
Join Hilary Martin Himan, Director of Spiritual Life and Chaplain, as she leads participants in some simple mindfulness and meditation practices to start the day. All are welcome- no previous experience necessary. Hilary will also briefly share about the new Spiritual Life program Awakened Awareness, which teaches mindfulness, meditation, and spiritual concepts to improve students’ mental health and resilience. Awakened Awareness is possible in part because of the generous Gregg Pavilion Spiritual Life Endowment gift from Sandy Osborne ’72. 

The Coming Revolution in Predictive and Precision Healthcare with Jim Kean ’84
Location To Be Determined 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Our current healthcare system is flying blind. While conditions and diseases may incubate and build over a multi-year span, they only become visible in advanced stages, given the tools at hand. This is changing. Multi-omics (the research approach that incorporates genome, proteome, and metabolome research) are driving a revolution in predictive precision health. Come hear where these disciplines are along the developmental path, how they are beginning to be integrated into our current system and what the implications are for society.

Cascade Head: Oregon’s Only UNESCO Biosphere, Professor Emeritus Stephen Dow Beckham 
Location To Be Determined 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Professor Stephen Beckham will speak to the area of the central coast from Siletz Bay to Neskowin and cover history from Native American cultures to modern tourism. The area includes thousands of acres in the Siuslaw National Forest, the Cascade Head Experimental Forest, the Cascade Head National Scenic Area, and UNESCO’s Biosphere designation.

From the Frontline of the Opioid Crisis, Dr. Art Van Zee ’69
Location To Be Determined 4 - 5 p.m.
Come hear the report from this year’s Alumni Honors Award Recipient, Distinguished Alumnus Award winner Art Van Zee ’69. Van Zee began sounding the alarm about the powerful prescription painkillers containing oxycodone, in the 1990s, and has been on the frontline of the opioid crisis ever since.

Campus (ADA Friendly) tour. Dive into a rich history of L&C’s beautiful estate, and explore the campus with this guided historical tour. This tour is outside, so please plan accordingly.

Alan Hart Exhibit Open House 4-5 p.m.
Aubrey R. Watzek Library Reading Room
Come learn about the history of Albany College (aka Lewis & Clark College) alum Alan Hart. Hart was a devoted medical scientist who did groundbreaking research in radiology and tuberculosis treatment. He was also a social pioneer as he underwent one of the first female-to-male gender transitions in the United States in 1917. This event is an open house format but there will be a curator present to answer questions. No food or drink can be brought into the reading room.

Pioneer Athletics Pre-Welcome Reception Meet Up in Pamplin 4 - 5 p.m.

Join your fellow Pioneer Athletics alumni in Pamplin Lobby to learn more about LC Athletics, mingle with coaches, meet current student-athletes and network with recent grads!

Meet your friends and hang out on campus in our on-campus pub. Beer, wine, nonalcoholic beverages and food will be available for purchase. Open to all alumni and friends 21 and over.

Estate Gardens
Alumni who have graduated since 2009 are invited to mix and mingle at the Young Alumni Social. If you are a pandemic grad, 2020 - 2024, you will receive a special gift during our Pandemic Grad Appreciation Moment.

Join Jan Pearce ’74, Richard Moore ’71 and other talented folks to sing beloved favorites. Jan and Richard will accompany on guitars.

This year’s Alumni Honors award winners are Ululani Brigitte Russo Oana ’15 - Outstanding Young Alumni Award, Hillary Dixon ’99 - L&C Alumni Leadership Award for service to L&C Alumni, Mark Duntley - Don Balmer Citation for Service to the college, and Art VanZee ’69 - Distinguished Alumni Award.

Presented by the Lewis & Clark Black Alumni Association, this event is a commemoration of the United States’ newest national holiday including a libation, African drumming, meaningful readings, and a time to share. Please come one, come all!

LGBTQ+ and Allies Mocktails and Karaoke 8 - 9 p.m.
A family friendly event where members of the L&C community can enjoy a night of queer joy! Sing along to iconic queer pop culture songs, including artists like ABBA, Lady Gaga, Queen, and much more! If all the singing makes you thirsty, cool down with our signature queer mocktails! This event is open to everyone, so come and celebrate with us!

After Feast Dance Party 8 - 10 p.m.
