David Ellis has returned to his current role of 14 years after serving as the College’s Interim President since January, 2017. David’s leadership helped provide for a smooth transition after selection of Wim Wiewel as his permanent replacement. David previously served as associate dean and director of Business Law Programs at Lewis & Clark Law School. David has also recently taught higher education law for the master’s degree program in student affairs administration at Lewis & Clark’s Graduate School of Education and Counseling.
Over the past decade, David has served as a member of the United Educators Legal Advisory Board, the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities Legal Advisory Board, as board chair and member of the Advisory Board of Hoyt Arboretum Friends, on the Advisory Board for the Columbia Land Trust, on the City of Portland’s Economic Development Policy Expert Group, and on a variety of advisory committees concerning land use regulation of colleges, universities, and hospitals in Portland.
David has been involved in the Center for Entrepreneurship since its inception and has been integral to its formation and success. He provides counsel and context to the Advisory Board.
David is married to Jeanne Deno Ellis, and has two sons, Sam and Logan, both in their mid-twenties. In is spare time he enjoys skiing, golf, tennis, hiking, gardening, music and is learning to play guitar.
