The community here has been warm and supportive. My professors take an interest in me and the work I am producing, and my advisor knows me well and has been a huge advocate for me.

What three words would you use to describe L&C?

Welcoming, Stimulating, Challenging

What’s your favorite class?

My favorite class was Immigration and Asylum Law with Elliott Young.

What made you want to come to Lewis & Clark?

I knew I wanted to attend law school at Lewis & Clark, and I knew I would have a smooth transition coming from an undergraduate education here.

What do you like or find most interesting about your major?

Being a history major has made me view the world around me through a historical lens. I deeply appreciate the perspective that I have gained in my major.

What do you like or find most interesting about your minor?

My minor in ethnic studies has, similarly to my history major, taught me about social constructs and has provided a more complete and nuanced understanding of present-day circumstances.

Tell us about your support systems and social outlets on campus: people, activities, clubs, res halls, etc.

I am not a traditional student. I am 33 years old and transferred to L&C after two years at a community college and have never lived on campus. Even so, the community here has been warm and supportive. My professors take an interest in me and the work I am producing, my advisor knows me well and has been a huge advocate for me.

What advice do you have for incoming students?

Get good sleep!! You will need it. L&C can be very demanding but you can do it if you can first prioritize your own well-being.

Tell us about the upcoming Ray Warren Symposium. What has your experience as a cochair been like? How does this event complement your academic experience?

This year’s symposium is titled On the Border. We will be focusing on borders of all kinds, whether they be national, cultural, legal, and so on. We want to explore how borders impact us and the world and communities around us and what happens when we break down borders and connect with each other.
