Dr. Nancy Teskey has taught at Lewis & Clark since 1997. She is an active performer, adjudicator, lecturer, and educator. As a flutist, she has lectured for the National Flute Association and Greater Portland Flute Society. She has appeared on recordings with composer Joseph Waters and pianist Carol Biel. Her flute and piano CD “Danza Del Sol” was released in 2004. Her past flute students head Warner Pacific College in Portland, are employed at the National Endowment for the Arts, are professors of flute, and play in world-renowned groups such as Hot Buttered Rum and Groove Revelation.

Dr. Teskey is also the Director of Bands at Oregon Episcopal School, a private, independent school in Portland, where since 2002 she has taught elementary and middle school bands and high school symphonic and string orchestras. She is also the Service Learning Coordinator at OES, helping students find their “power for good” in the world.

Nancy’s primary flute teachers all studied with Marcel Moyse, and Nancy continues to teach Moyse’s philosophy – that one should sing through the flute. A student of the Alexander Technique as well, Nancy uses body awareness and relaxation techniques to help students develop full and expressive sounds. She has studied flute extensively with Samuel Baron, Frank Bowen, Susan Glaser, Karl Kraber, and Alexa Still.
