Mia Hernandez

Mia Hernandez, LC’ 23

Mia plans on working in veterinary medicine.
Major/Minor: Biology

“I hope to work in Shelter Medicine which means working closely with public or private animal shelters to ensure animals without homes are taken care of. My family works closely with a foster program for German Shepherds. Many of the dogs we care for greatly rely on veterinary care not only to heal past traumas but to prepare for their forever homes.

These experiences drive my interest in shelter medicine, where I hope to either work at an animal shelter committed to the health and well-being of these animals or at an animal hospital that works closely with foster programs.”

Mia is a student leader in the Pre-Health Professions Club.

The club fosters community among pre-health students, raises awareness about on- and off-campus resources, and improves the success of pre-health students applying to graduate schools. The student club holds many events to support students interested in healthcare including a career panel, CPR certification, suture clinic, volunteering trips, guest speakers, and monthly meetings. Student leaders provide peer advising and mentorship to younger students and act as advocates for all pre-health students by coordinating with faculty and staff to develop meaningful curriculum and programming.
