Jeff Leonard has long been recognized for his work in the Oregon music scene, starting with his tenure in the Tom Grant Band, and has recorded and performed with Dan Balmer, Alan Jones, Gary Versace, and many others. Beyond the state he has worked with a diverse variety of artists, including Diana Ross, Renee Fleming, Bob Moses, and Wayne Horvitz. Currently he is a member of Upper Left Trio, which has been described as “one of the more articulate and thoughtful new trios to emerge in the 21st century” (AllAboutJazz.com). He also lead the group Val Gardena, which recorded three widely praised albums for Mercury Records. In the studio, he has participated in nearly 100 albums in a variety of roles. As a composer, he has published nearly 70 original compositions which appear on a dozen albums. As an educator, he has taught for over thirty years, and is currently a faculty member at Lewis & Clark College, where he has taught since 1988 and teaches electronic music and jazz.
