Stephen A. Roth is a former member of Lewis & Clark’s Board of Trustees, neighbor to the college and an alumna parent. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley and obtained an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business. Steve then went to work for the Salomon Brothers Mortgage Trading Desk, and later Drexel Burnham Lambert’s Commercial Mortgage Trading Desk. Following that, he was the Founder, CEO, and Chairman of Secured Capital Corp in Los Angeles (later sold to Wells Fargo), Founder and shareholder of Secured Capital Japan (taken public and then private), Founder and major shareholder of STAM REI in Paris (recently sold to a German public company), and Founder and Chairman of Kailong REI in Shanghai (minority interest sold to Warburg Pincus).
Other significant start-ups as angel investor/board member include Property First – online commercial property listings (sold to Loopnet), Rent.com -online apartment rental site (sold to Ebay), 1998 – Trading Edge – online bond trading platform (sold to Market Axess), and Precept – online commercial mortgage brokerage (closed).
Steve enjoys motorcycle riding, skiing, and bird hunting.
