What was your favorite class? How did it expand your knowledge?

Argument and Social Justice with Heather Hayes. I have learned to apply rhetorical theory to high school students and have seen the direct impact of what I have learned in a real-life setting.

Who are your mentors on campus?

My professor, Heather Hayes, and our Student Athlete Advisory Committee sponsor, Tamara Ko.

What made you want to come to Lewis & Clark?

The campus itself as well as being able to play the sport I love at the collegiate level. I had also researched the study abroad programs and knew that this was the school for me.

How do you describe the liberal arts?

Learning a little about a lot of different subjects.

If you have studied or will study overseas while at Lewis & Clark, how did you choose your program? 

A volleyball alumna recommended studying overseas to me. She said that it was the best experience of her life.

Did you visit campus before deciding to come to L&C? How did your visit influence your decision to attend?

Yes. It immediately felt like home. I can’t really describe that feeling. I just knew that I couldn’t imagine myself not coming here.

What advice do you have for prospective students?

If you are an athlete, imagine a scenario in which you are injured. Would you still like the school after that? Trust your gut, it’s never wrong.

What’s your favorite spot on campus?

The weight room or the couches in Pamplin.

What’s your favorite thing about living in Portland?

The city itself is so unique. The food is amazing and everyone is so polite.

How did you decide on a major?

I decided late. I came into L&C with a different major in mind, took an introductory class, and realized that it wasn’t for me. I chose my major becauseI genuinely enjoyed one of the first classes I took in the Rhetoric and Media Studies department. I could feel myself learning so many new things.

What have been the biggest challenges you have faced at Lewis & Clark?

The first semester, it was hard being away from my family. I found a new family with the volleyball team, however, and that helped a ton.

What’s your best Lewis & Clark memory so far?

Beating Whitworth on senior night in five sets, and sweeping Whitman the day before. It was truly a team effort and we hadn’t beaten them before since I’ve been here.

How do you manage stress?

I plan out one hour a day for myself. I will journal, call my family, or take a nap. I prioritize myself and really listen to what my body needs.

Where do you find community on campus?

The athletics at L&C are a family. Everyone knows everyone and we have each other’s backs 100 percent of the time.

How has Lewis & Clark changed you?

It has made me truly appreciate learning and provided me with so many opportunities I don’t think I would have elsewhere.
