Julia Unangst

Director of Foundation Relations and Strategic Philanthropy

Julia joined the Lewis & Clark Advancement team in the Fall of 2019 when she transferred from the Office of Sponsored Projects and Research Compliance. She received her MA in English Literature from Portland State University and her BA in English Literature from the University of Arizona. During graduate school, she worked as a technical writer for the Physics Department where she first began assisting faculty in grant proposal development and manuscript editing. This experience would set her on a career path in academia. The knowledge, passion, and focus students, faculty, and staff share with her as they seek support for their research and special projects continues to make the job rewarding.

Julia grew up in sunny Tucson, Arizona, but has been a Portland resident for 15 years. While she misses the bright turquoise skies of the Sonoran Desert and the cultural influence of life near the US-Mexico border, she now considers the Pacific Northwest her home (however gray and soggy it sometimes may be). When she is not stewarding faculty through the intricate process of grant seeking, you can find Julia listening to records, eating delicious food at one of Portland’s eateries, and hanging out in her Northeast Portland home with her two kids and their gregarious pet, Richard Grieco the leopard gecko.
