April 14 - 25, 2019
Led by Kori Rosenstiel, L&C College Outdoors
Join L&C alumni, friends, family, and current students on a remote alpine adventure through the breathtaking high Andes! From the Lima airport you’ll head up to the town of Huaraz to spend several days immersed in the local culture and acclimatizing to the elevation. From there, you’ll depart for a week-long backcountry trek through the spectacular and rugged Cordillera Blanca. A donkey team will carry your gear, and you’ll spend nights camping in the mountains under a brilliant starry sky. Far from light pollution and in the thin alpine air, the view of the stars is as memorable as the mountain vistas.
No technical mountaineering skills are required, but you will be hiking at high elevation for several miles each day on steep terrain, so the trip is physically demanding. Trekking days will include 4-7 hrs of hiking at 12,000 - 14,000 ft elevation, as well as crossing over gorgeous mountain passes as high as 16,000 ft. As part of this “expedition style” adventure, you will assist the trip leader with meals and camp chores. If you love adventure, this trip will be as rewarding as it is challenging.
Day 1: Arrive in Lima and spend the night in a hotel.
Day 2: Travel to Huaraz and spend the night in a hotel.

Day 6-11: Santa Cruz Trek through the breathtaking Cordillera Blanca. Plan to hike 5-7 hours each day carrying a light day pack. Donkeys will carry all your gear, and you’ll camp in tents each night.
Day 11: Return to Huaraz. Celebration Banquet dinner. Night in a hotel.
Day 12: Travel to Lima and depart on a late night flight.

I am a northwest native, nature junkie, and travel lover. I grew up in the Portland area but attended college in the midwest before returning to the great northwest for graduate school, where I studied amphibians and disease ecology. After working in biology for several years, in 2015 I took my love of nature in a new direction and started working with the L&C outdoor program. As the College Outdoors Operations Manager my role is primarily to manage behind-the-scenes trip logistics, but I also have the opportunity to lead trips and student leader trainings. I have traveled and trekked in the Andes, Alps, Himalayas, Appalachians, Rockies, Sierras, and Cascade Mountains. I love to backpack, hike, sea kayak, ski, and do anything where I get to spend extended periods of time in the wilderness! I also love coffee, frogs, new adventures, alpine lakes, bad puns, and mossy trees.
