I went to the University of Denver and graduated in 1968 PBK Magna Cum Laude with a Double Major in History and Speech. I got an MA in Communication at the University of Houston in 1970 and a PhD in Speech Communication from the University of Kansas in 1973. To avoid the draft, I joined ROTC and served a year in the army as an air defense artillery officer. Then I served in the reserves, eventually achieving the rank of Captain.
I came to Lewis & Clark in 1973. I was a Director of Forensics for my entire career as an educator. I also picked up a JD (law degree) at Northwestern School of Law 1985.
I have served in all kinds of positions at Lewis & Clark including Chair of the Department of Communication (now RHMS), Chair of Curriculum Committee, Chair of Academic Advising, Admissions, and Financial Aid Committee, Faculty Parliamentarian, and Dean of Social Sciences. In the forensics community, I have edited Pi Kappa Delta’s The Forensic for four years and been President of the National Cross Examination Debate Association.
Personally, I am very interested in politics, current events, U.S. and British history, science fiction, poker, movies, and some sports. I have traveled to Britain and Scotland three times and have spent a bit of time in Mexico.
