DRAG: A Fabulous Workshop! with Pepper Pepper and Isaiah Esquire
Join two of Portland’s most beloved gender rebels for an evening of drag, dance, and entertainment where YOU participate in the magic. This special one-of-a-kind workshop combines a lecture about Portland’s drag history and theory, a scintillating all-levels dance warm-up, and performances by Pepper and Isaiah and culminates in a group drag number where everyone gets to shine.

Pepper Pepper (aka Kaj-anne Pepper) crafts performance-art, video, and stories that turn tragic into magic and trauma into drama. For over 20+ years, “Ms. Pepper Pepper” has entertained as a celebrated MC, hostess, producer, and drag persona. Pepper’s nightlife, fine arts, and visual-arts practices comingle in an ongoing exploration of glamour, gender, history, and magic. Pepper has toured festivals abroad in Hungary, Germany, Canada, and all across the United States. As an educator Pepper explores histories of defiant gender expressions and fabulous alternative thinkers and has lectured for various public and private institutions, schools, and programs. Pepper’s work has been presented at OFF! Biennale Budapest, PICA’s T:BA Festival, Risk/Reward Festival, Reed College, and many more. As an instructor, Pepper offers insight into queer histories of performance and provides compelling opportunities for audiences and students to access the magic of their “persona power.”
Isaiah Esquire is an active mentor/teacher/performer/producer. He is also known as “The Tower Of Power” on stage and has graced many stages throughout the United States, Australia, Austria, Canada, Finland, and Jamaica. Isaiah has a unique performance style that is intensely emotive, athletic, and explosive incorporating elements of dance, burlesque, and drag into his stage performance—voted among the top 50 most influential Burlesque Performers in the World the last three years in a row. He is one half of the dynamic duo Izohnny who produces and headlines the hit show BOYeurism in Portland. You may have even seen him on “America’s Got Talent” or on Netflix in the Documentary “Glitter Tribe.” Students who attend Isaiah’s class will be encouraged to push their boundaries and expand their movement. He offers an engaging and interactive class where you are empowered to speak up and ask questions to increase your knowledge and confidence.
