2022 NSO Announcement to Faculty and Staff
Summer 2022 flew by and we are approaching another academic year! I hope that you were able to relax this summer and get prepared for the promises and possibilities the new academic year brings.
Jeremy Kregar and Eleanor Stokes-Liss, the student directors of New Student Orientation, and I have been working hard this summer to put together a great orientation program for our 656 new first-year and 56 transfers. It is our goal to introduce new students to the academic program of the institution, help acquaint them with the campus environment and many members of the community, as well as provide a variety of social programs for them to meet their classmates. All of these are important components to their success as Lewis & Clark students.
Our hope is that during their brief visit here, parents and family members of our incoming students will garner a new understanding of the institution, the opportunities and services available to their students and leave campus convinced that this is exactly the right place for their child. As of today, we have 530 parents registered for the program.
On Wednesday, August 24, beginning at 8 a.m., students and parents will begin arriving for New Student Orientation and Parents and Family Preview. If you would like to volunteer at move-in, we would love your help! Given the robust number of guests, traffic to Palatine Hill and parking on campus on Wednesday, August 24 will be challenging. Please consider alternate transportation or parking options on this busy day. Here are some suggestions:
- Park in Griswold Stadium, Fir Acres parking lot, or the graduate campus
- Take the Trimet to campus
- Ride your bike to work
- Have a family member bring you to campus
For the past few years, we have opted to host the NSO schedule online rather than printing it. The NSO schedules can be found on our new NSO programming landing page in a few days.
To this, information about Parents and Family Preview (which used to be two days but this year will be just one) can be found on our Parents and Family page.
This is always an exciting time at the college and we hope you will join us in enthusiastically welcoming students, parents, and friends alike into our community. Everyone will be busy over the next few weeks but we would be happy to speak with you if you have specific questions about any of this information. You can reach NSO at ext. 7183 or feel free to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you for your continued support of these important programs and can’t wait to see you this fall!
Franchesca Spann, Director of New Student Orientation and Campus Living Daily Operations Coordinator
