Campus Dining Changes This Fall

The renovation of Templeton establishes a new chapter in the heart of campus life. The updated student center will provide expanded opportunities for students to gather in the evening and includes new outdoor seating areas, student organization offices, and a variety of meeting spaces.

One of the highlights of the project, a redesigned Trail Room, will open this fall. The new Trail Room will offer improved social and programming space and expanded services, including a morning coffee bar and late evening dining opportunities. Also on the second floor, just around the corner from the Trail Room, a small market will also offer grocery items.

In working with our partners, Bon Appétit, we recognized that the new Trail Room would duplicate services provided by Maggie’s Café and would require increased staffing. To address these challenges, and to avoid passing additional costs on to students, we have decided that Maggie’s Cafe will not be reopening.

A variety of dining venues will be available when the semester begins. The options for dining this fall are as follows:

Maggie’s Café was named for Margaret “Maggie” Murdy, who made significant gifts to the college to support residence hall development and other efforts. To continue to acknowledge her generous gifts, the plaza between East and Roberts halls will be renamed Maggie’s Courtyard.

The physical space occupied by Maggie’s Café will reopen this fall as a student study space. Late in the semester, the space will become temporary offices for campus staff relocated due to the Stewart-Odell renovation until Fall 2023. During the upcoming academic year we will engage our campus community, particularly our students, to explore how this space can continue to enhance the campus experience.
