Visiting Prof. of Music Nominated for 2021 GRAMMY Award
John K. Cox, Visiting Professor of Music and Director of Voces Auream, was recently nominated for a GRAMMY as a member of the Skylark Vocal Ensemble.
Skylark is composed of some of the most talented solo vocalists, chamber musicians, and music educators in the United States. They were previously nominated for GRAMMYS in 2018 and 2020.
This year’s nomination in the “Best Choral Performance” category is for their 2021 album, It’s a Long Way. The album explores the experience of living through the current pandemic, which they describe as “a time of great disruption, of isolation, of fear, and of loss, but also a time for reflection, for hope, for growth, and for action.”
In addition to pieces by Schubert, Pärt, and Josquin, It’s a Long Way includes four world premiere recordings: three commissioned by Skylark for the year 2020, and one composed by Georges Dupuy de Mèry during World War II.
