Lewis & Clark will be participating in The Great Oregon Shakeout on October 21, a day of earthquake preparedness observed by nations across the world.

You are encouraged to take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with earthquakes and how to be prepared. Focus on the basics, like what to do when you feel shaking and what important items to keep in your room or car.

BEFORE THE EARTHQUAKE

Be sure your cell phone is registered with the Lewis & Clark emergency alert system:

Students

Faculty & Staff

DURING THE EARTHQUAKE

  • Listen to official communications on what to do. You will be notified by Lewis & Clark and city and state officials via SMS text messages.
  • Focus on keeping yourself safe. Your safety is your number one priority.
  • Call or text 911 if you are in need of assistance, but understand there will be delays until emergency personnel are able to assist you.
  • Remember… …when you feel shaking or receive an earthquake warning.
  • If able, keep important persons (your parents, family, and friends) updated about your location and support needed. Please know that cell phone reception may be limited.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON OCTOBER 21

Lewis & Clark will test the campus emergency alert system. A test message will be sent on October 21, 2021 at 10:21AM. You will receive the following message via text message and email.

    • LCAlerts: This is a test of the Lewis & Clark emergency alert system. During a real emergency you will receive notification about a critical incident on campus and how to stay safe.
    • If you do not receive a text message from Lewis & Clark, please verify that your cell phone is correctly added to the system using the previously stated instructions.

Thinking about emergencies and disasters can be scary. Preparing ahead of time is your best option in staying safe during an emergency or disaster, especially during an earthquake. Remember to sign up for emergency alerts, have emergency supplies available, and be ready to act when you feel shaking.
