Dear Students,

Before you jump into a safe, long-awaited summer, please consider submitting digital files, videos, or images that represent your time at Lewis and Clark during the pandemic. We have all lived through history this year. With your help, we can document this unprecedented time. Submissions from in-person and remote students welcome. All students who submit something will be given the chance to win one of three $50 gift cards to Amazon!

With funding from the Faculty Library Ed Tech Committee, student and faculty collaborators are putting together an archive of various ephemera from the pandemic in 2020 and 2021 as it impacted the Lewis & Clark community. It will be a digital archive, hosted through Watzek Library’s Archives & Special Collections.

The foundational items in the collection will be a series of oral histories that students in the spring 2021 Historical Materials course conducted with members of the Lewis & Clark community during the spring 2021 semester. They interviewed a wide range of people including administrators, students, staff and faculty, assembling a small but valuable record of the pandemic experiences of the College community.

Our goal is to collect a wide range of ephemera pieces from this past year. These will include everything from early notifications of the College shutdown last spring, to photos of the Covid signage adorning buildings and classrooms, to Pio-Log articles on the pandemic to (we hope) some kind of artistic homage to Zoom. Textual and visual markers of the pandemic have become ubiquitous on campus, but soon enough, they will likely disappear. Our modest digital archive seeks to preserve the memory of this collective experience of the LC community.

But we are looking for so much more!

Please consider submitting ANY digital object related to your experience of the pandemic year, including (but not limited to):

“masked selfies” – photos of yourself in your favorite mask

reflections of the experience of being masked

poetry

artwork

audio recordings of your “pandemic stories”

assignments that you completed that relate in some way to the pandemic

doodles

screenshots of a gathering*

audio / video recordings of performances or events you participated in

photographs

emails or other correspondence

journal entries

playlists that got your through the hard times

anything related to the COVID-19 pandemic and your experience

other ideas welcome!
