Associate Professor of Music, Director of Piano Susan DeWitt Smith performs on AllClassical Portland’s Thursdays at Three series this week. This performance will be a re-broadcast of a live performance that aired this past summer from her home.
The program features a composition by Department Chair and Professor of Music Michael Johanson titled In Memoriam Jóhann Jóhannsson. Jóhannsson, who tragically died in 2018 at the age of 48, was an Icelandic composer who worked in a variety of media, and is especially known for his evocative, ambient soundscapes as well as his blending of acoustic and electronic sounds. He composed numerous film scores, writing music for films such as Arrival and The Theory of Everything.
Susan also performs Bach’s Bb Major Partita and 3 of David Schiff’s Six Songs Without Words, gorgeous and evocative pieces inspired by Mendelssohn’s Songs Without Words.
